*Students to Write About Endangered Species Act’s Contribution
By David Robinson, June 19, 2023
If you are a young person or educator wanting to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act—consider the Endangered Species Essay Project.
This is a unique opportunity for students in grades 3-12 to practice essay writing and explore topics related to ecology and the environment. Teachers and other educators can incorporate this project into their fall 2023 lesson planning or otherwise encourage students to participate. Students will submit their essays about endangered species for potential inclusion in a virtual collection. It will showcase dozens of articles from students around the country organized by species and region.
Students enrolled in Grades 3-12 in Fall 2023 can submit essays from August 1 until November 1, 2023. The student essays should be 1,000 words or less. The overall theme is the Endangered Species Act’s contribution to recovering and protecting endangered species.
All students who submit essays will participate in a raffle, with prizes for the winners. There will also be a raffle for educators with five or more students submitting articles. Prizes will include $100 gift cards for classroom supplies.
You can find more information about the theme, submission guidelines, prizes, and additional resources.
